FOR LADIES ONLY: patent skully vans pre-order

Okay... so I am finally going to get off my ass and make some of my Skully Vans (see the pics on the right or search this blog to see my completed original canvas pair)... I am starting with some slick ladies black patent leather Vans I have found. This is a pre-order to let me know how many and what sizes I need to purchase to start making them. My plan is to include 3 interchangeable tongue options: white, grey and pink. Pink stitching and pink sole. These will sell for $185 US... not cheap, but they will be limited to 15 pairs (first ordered, first served). I will take orders with a $50 deposit (balance due upon completion of shoes). Accepted orders will be completed by Halloween 2009.

**Caveat Emptor**... since these are custom, made to order shoes please order size carefully, no substitutions or refunds will be given. Also note, this design does remove material from the shoe, I cannot guarantee the durability of these shoes, they are more fashion over function, so again no refund or substitution will be given for damage occuring after arrival of product. Refund will be given on deposit if I cannot complete the project due to material issues, etc.

To pre-order a pair, please email me at dspringer@sympatico.ca or leave me a message here on this blog. Please have shoe size, contact info and shipping address ready.

Cheers, I'm excited to get started on these!

SKATEBOARD: process continued...

Well... since I have been doing things I have never done before... why stop there? I decided to add a dripping skull to the board... and instead of just painting one on... I decided to carve it into the board itself (well, the outline at least)... So I carved out the outline of the skull as well as the eyes and nose... to be filled in with black...

SKATEBOARD: mid process pics...

Here is a little step by step process of the skateboard I am doing for the upcoming Disposable show (see below for details).

Well, I decided to try a whole bunch of things I have never done before on this deck (not the smartest idea when you only have 1 blank to work with). Anyway, I found this image of an 60's biker that was just too cool to not use, so I converted it to halftones, printed it out on a laser copier and did a gel medium transfer directly onto the board. Since I have never done one before it was a learning experience... it took me 3 tries to get to the point where most of the image stayed on the board and didn't peel up. Then begins the long process of taking the backing paper off of the board without taking off the graphic... warm water, a sponge and a bunch of patience. Next up was also a new experience... gold leafing... pretty cool, but a mess... not very fun at all... I have a feeling I will be finding gold leaf in my rug and clothes for the next year...

Next up is some painting, then varnish and then off to the gallery... (it's due Friday... so I gotta motor on it)

Step 1: Applying the gel transfer medium

Step 2: Removing the backing paper to reveal the image

Step 3: Applying the gold leaf

stay tuned for next steps and the final product...

cheers

Skully Vans

Just got these back from the gallery... Custom Vans slip-ons. With the help of a little Italian cobbler, I made these babies for a kick-ass group show at Omy gallery here in Toronto. The tongues are velcroed in and interchangeable so you can switch up colours. I am thinking of doing a short run in the new year if I can get a bulk discount on shoes. If you are interested hit me up with your size and I will let you know how things progress...
